Death certificate
The death certificate is issued by a doctor once he or she is satisfied with the cause of death.
If your loved one dies at home, you will have to call out a doctor.
If they die in a hospital, hospice or nursing home, the staff will assist you in getting the death certificate.
We are here to help with advice and assistance at every stage of the funeral arrangement including helping you to complete any documentation that is required.
REGISTERING A DEATH
Deaths in Scotland must be registered within 8 days, and many crematoria and cemeteries will not proceed with the funeral until the death has been registered.
You will need to telephone or email the Registry Office to make an appointment to register the death.
You can find a registration office online or feel free to ask us and we will be more than happy to help you in this difficult time.
The registrars will require the following information:
- Full Name of Deceased (including any middle names)
- Date and Place of Birth
- Parent’s full names including Mother’s maiden name
- Full name of spouse (if appropriate)
Due to current COVID 19 restrictions all death registrations are being carried out telephonically.
