All our staff are fully trained in all aspects of funeral service so that families in their time of need can feel at ease and comfortable with all funeral arrangements. Our company policy is that the member of staff who makes the funeral arrangements will be in sole charge of overseeing the funeral ensuring that the all details are adhered to faultlessly.
All our funeral directors are dressed impeccably with top hats and frock coats. We pace away all funeral corteges from the family home, Churches and our funeral homes. Our funeral homes are furnished to a high standard with a tasteful blend of modern and traditional. We have reception areas, private arrangement offices and chapels of rest and service rooms in all our funeral homes. Our funeral homes are ideally located to serve the local community.

OUR STORY
When Desmond Maguire started washing funeral cars at 15 years old, it didn’t take him long to notice how important a good funeral could be for a grieving family. Inspired to help those in need, Desmond took a job as a funeral service operative when he finished school. He gradually worked his way through the ranks to become a funeral director and in June 2006, he decided to open his own funeral home, aiming to deliver the very best funeral care.
A funeral is such a personal thing, and there are so many complex emotions to be given due attention, that to be chosen so often is a real honour and a privilege. It’s a constant source of pride and humility for Desmond that so many families entrust their funerals into his company’s care.

Our most budget-friendly funeral plan is our Simple Funeral. This includes everything required for a funeral service, including our hearsette. Our professional funeral services remain the same high standard as every other funeral plan.
Planning a funeral is an intimate event. It is the ultimate ceremony for mourners to say a final goodbye to a beloved family member and close friend. An event that brings people together, helps connect emotionally, to come to terms with a loss, provide a chance for acceptance, paving the way for the grieving process to begin.
Planning the funeral is about tailoring a remembrance ceremony. Our funeral planning services are tailored to individual circumstances because the little details matter. We can include your loved ones favourite flowers as floral tributes in the hearse, as a casket spray, and in the service room. Alternative funeral vehicles can be used to better suit the life being commemorated. Orders of Service booklets can be printed with personal photographs. No matter your budget, if there is anything that would make the service more personal, we do our best to make it happen.

At Desmond Maguire Funeral Directors, we have our own fleet of funeral vehicles, each custom built to our specifications. Our vehicles are maintained to extremely high standards and we use our hearsette to transport the body of the deceased into our care, rather than for the funeral only. All of our services are conducted with high regard to respect and dignity.
Our chauffeurs are experienced, dress in traditional attire of frock coats and top hats, and conduct the funeral cortege with traditional funeral etiquette of paging away from the home, church or our funeral home.
About Our Funeral Home near Newton Mearns
Our Funeral Home is located near Newton Mearns, approximately 20 minutes by car via the M77. Within our facilities are a reception area, family room, Chapel of Rest, viewing room, and our service room has seating capacity for up to 120 mourners. The premises are tastefully decorated with soft ambient lighting throughout and an audio system is installed in the service room.
Personal Funeral Planning Assistance
All our staff are fully-trained and experienced. No matter who you deal with at Desmond Maguire, you can be assured of a high service level. We engage one on one with families to get a thorough understanding of the life of the person to be commemorated. To ensure we capture the spirit of loved ones, and arrange the type of funeral you would like us to, we have a policy of assigning a single point of contact. Throughout the funeral planning process, you will get the full attention of a personal funeral planning assistant, backed by our expert team and Funeral Directors.
Headstones and Memorials
In addition to funeral planning, we work with local stonemason’s who can create bespoke headstones and memorials that truly capture the spirit of loved ones. Our team can help with advice on design choices like the shape of headstones, materials, tones, textures, and text inscriptions. The wording inscribed on headstones and memorial plaques will last for generations. We can help you choose the most fitting words for future generations to learn about their family heritage.
